Karelian poet and novelist Oleg Moshnikov presented a new collection of poems “Leaves in the Wind” today in Petrozavodsk. The meeting with the author took place in the National Library of the Republic, where readers and friends of the pen gathered. The presentation of the collection was the first event in Karelia, which took place as part of the donation festival #MYVMESTE. Its purpose is to give the people of the country a sense of unity and mutual support. Oleg Moshnikov told “Respublika” about this and about his new book.
“In my understanding, the phrase ‘We are together’ means that we are in our native Russia. In our Karelia. In the beautiful hall of the National Library, where people are drawn to culture. It unites us. When writing poetry, I relied on my happy childhood. In memory of parents who are no more. The lion’s share of my childhood impressions are connected with them. The poems tell about my service in the army, about the fire service, about my childhood in Staraya Kukkovka, about Karelia, about Russia. There are also historical subtexts. This includes my translations from Karelian, Finnish and Veps. Every reader will find something close to himself in my poems, “said Oleg Moshnikov.
The book “Leaves in the Wind” became the fifth lyric collection, but the first for the author in hardcover. It includes a hundred poems and translations by Oleg Moshnikov. 80% of the books were new works, and the rest were previously unpublished.
Thanks to the support of the Government of Karelia and the Ministry of National Policy of the Republic, the book was published by Periodika Publishing House. Circulation was 500 copies, 300 of which will go on sale, and the rest will be distributed free of charge at various venues and events.
We will remind, on April 22 in National library of the republic took place awarding the winners and laureates of the competition “Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia – 2021”.
