The Gorky Perm Library hosted a presentation of the book “In the Shadow of the Throne”, dedicated to Grand Duke Mikhail Romanov and British King Edward VIII. The author of the work, Moscow writer Vasily Zubakin, explained that Perm was not accidentally chosen for the presentation, URA.RU correspondent reports. The city, the writer reminded, is “closely connected” with the name of the younger brother of the last Russian emperor Nicholas II – it was here that he was killed by the Bolsheviks.

“It took place in Perm recently unveiling of the monument to Grand Duke Mikhail Romanov, flowers were laid. Place [для памятника] excellent chosen. Nearby – the river Kama, beautiful view. It seems that he left here for eternity. That is why the presentation of my book is taking place here today, ”Zubakin said.

The author admitted that he “wanted to peel off” Mikhail Romanov, so the novel was written in the genre of documentary. This is the junction of the artistic and documentary genres, where the author tries to be precise in historical details, but “allows history to go the other way.” “The book is written with deep respect for Mikhail Alexandrovich, there are many real characters in it,” says the author.

The presentation of the book was preceded by a performance of classical music. In particular, the musicians performed one of the works of the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, with whom the Grand Duke was acquainted and whose music he loved very much. It is known that Mikhail Romanov had a great ear, and he played many musical instruments.

Vasily Zubakin is a professor, head of the Department of Renewable Energy Sources (based on Lukoil-Energoengineering LLC) at Gubkin University, author of many scientific studies. In 2020 he wrote his first book “Tin Fireman”. The adventurous novel tells the story of the twentieth-century peer Baron d’Astier, an aristocrat from the highest Parisian world.
