A book on women’s lives in the North Caucasus was presented in Moscow. Prepared with the support of the Heinrich Bell Foundation, the publication was named “13 Amazing Women of the North Caucasus.” The author of the book is journalist Evgenia Volunkova. The presentation in Moscow was attended by three heroines of the documentary – Talif Aushev from Ingushetia, Roza Muzaeva from Chechnya and Aishat Gamzaeva from Dagestan.

As Volunkova told Kavkaz.Realii, the book has a circulation of one thousand copies. The bulk of the circulation will be distributed free of charge in the republics of the North Caucasus, where a presentation is also planned in the spring.

. All the stories and heroines are different. Each chapter is independent and not united with the other. But almost all the heroines have experienced a lot on their way, they are united by altruism, love for others, the desire to help others. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic I had to collect I talked a lot with the heroines on the phone, as well as with their relatives, colleagues, friends and those whom they helped to make the stories and portraits of the heroines as complete as possible, “Volunkova said.

For some stories, the author traveled to the North Caucasus. There were some excerpts from the book before it was published published in the publication “Such cases”.

“Hopefully, this book will show that women’s destinies in the Caucasus are very different, which depends on the particular family, the woman’s environment and, of course, herself. We hope that these stories will inspire others to pursue their dreams, achieve goals and simply fill good emotions “, – the interlocutor of the Caucasus.Realities summed up.

  • October 18, 2021 police officers forcibly taken away from the crisis center “Mother’s House” in Kazan two adult girls from Dagestan. The girls later told human rights activists that they were all right, but they said the statements were made under pressure: the girls had been adamant for a year that they wanted to start a new life outside their home republic.
  • At the end of 2021 it happened known on sentences handed down in the North Caucasus for the murder of women. Former policeman Tagir Velagaev from Makhachkala, being drunk, brutally killed his ex-wife and hid the corpse. And Magomedbashir Mogushkov from Ingushetia killed his sister Elizaveta Evloeva because of the video “merged” by the police. Both criminals received a surprisingly lenient sentence – two years in prison. The killers are forbidden to leave the house at night, to attend mass events, they must be regularly observed in the supervisory structures. The same sentence is imposed for petty (up to 10 thousand rubles) bribery, distribution of hacker programs or illegal gambling.
  • Human rights project “Marem” by Dagestan journalist Svetlana Anokhina took first place and received the award in the nomination “Assisting Project of the Year” of the International Festival on Gender Literacy, Freedom of Choice and Dignity “Femfest-2021”.
