As reported by the resource Deadline, Netflix is currently working on the ability to launch live broadcasts on the platform. Special editions of comedy projects, reality shows and other content will be aired.
Deadline says that live broadcasts will be a convenient tool for showing additional materials of the show and conducting audience voting in various competitions. The platform can also broadcast special editions of comedy projects – the library has collected many performances by stand-up comedians, and this year hosted the Netflix Is a Joke Fest. Performances from the event will be posted later, but next year the audience may see them immediately.
One of Netflix’s main competitors has already started experimenting with live broadcasts – this year the Disney Plus platform showed the Oscar ceremony and promised to release another competition show in this format soon.
The need for change for Netflix is now particularly acute: report the company in the first quarter was disastrous and caused falling shares by 37% in just one day. During the reporting period, the service lost 200 thousand. subscribers, and in the next quarter the outflow of customers may reach 2 million. In addition to live broadcasts, the company may try to correct its situation by introducing cheap tariff with advertisingas well as a ban on the use of one account by several households.
