Musicians lowered their voice – Kommersant FM – Kommersant

One by one, Russian artists are postponing the upcoming concerts indefinitely. The other day Boris Grebenshchikov said on Twitter that the performances of the “Aquarium” were canceled until better times. Earlier, other rock bands announced the postponement of the concerts. At the same time, musicians risk losing income from listening to streams. This is due to the fact that work in Russia has decided to suspend the “big three” of record companies – Universal, Warner and Sony Music. What awaits the Russian music industry? Lilia Galyavieva understood.

The poster for March lost the most anticipated concerts. Oxxxymiron, DDT, “Aquarium”, “Naive”, Garik Sukachev and other performers have already performed. And the group “Mummy Troll” has announced the suspension of activities. Some music groups have not yet decided. Among them is the soloist of the group “FASHION” Phil Kruzhkov:

“It simply came to our notice then. We’re not writing any new albums right now because we’re not in the mood. Our next concert is on March 30. I think every day what to do. On the one hand, I don’t want to go on stage and sing at all, on the other hand, I think I’ll just redraw the program, removing all the positive songs from there. “

Due to the widespread cancellation of performances by foreign and Russian performers, the concert organizers asked the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina and the business ombudsman of Russia Boris Titov for support. In particular, the abolition of coronavirus restrictions, as well as the introduction of a moratorium on return tickets.

Performances of foreign groups bring the main earnings to the organizers, and they are not expected in the near future, said the editor-in-chief of the Intermedia agency Yevgeny Safronov. However, in the current situation, some industry representatives will be able to benefit, he says: “Foreign teams can be forgotten, I think, for a long time. As for domestic groups, they will occupy a niche as much as possible.

This is even a plus in a sense, although from a creative point of view, without a doubt, competition with foreign performers provided great incentives for development. There are already far fewer concerts. But sooner or later it will end, and those who stay in the market will have certain advantages. ”

The prospects for new music releases remain vague. The “big three” of record companies – Universal, Warner and Sony Music – have suspended their work in Russia. The producers note that these studios occupy about 50% of the entire Russian market. According to Kommersant’s interlocutors, there is a possibility that new albums and singles by foreign musicians will no longer be officially released in the country.

It is also unclear how Russian artists who collaborate with foreign record companies will receive money from auditions on streams. However, there is a more serious problem, says Zvonko Group managing partner Dmitry Konnov:

“Now the main problem is not in the payments from the label or the distributor to the artist, but in what will happen with the payment to the streams.

People will want to move from Spotify to Yandex. Will they be able to pay for a Yandex.Music subscription today if they have never been its users before? How is this payment made? This whole story makes sense when you pay for streaming, even a ridiculous 169 rubles. And if you have this money, you can’t shove it into your phone. “

Access to some foreign audio recordings in Russia is already limited. For example, Rammstein’s latest Zeit song was unavailable on streaming day. Also on March 11, Pink Floyd announced that they were removing their digital releases, released since 1987, from all music platforms in Russia.
