Written by admin

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett released his first solo album – 4-track “Portals”. According to Louder Sound, the record combines the elements that most influenced Hammett – metal, horror movies, classical music and works by Ennio Morricone.

The guitarist was thinking about a solo release in 2017 when he wrote the soundtrack to his show in Salem, Massachusetts. The song turned into a seven-minute track “Maiden and the Monster”, which opens “Portals”.

Conductor Edwin Outwater, drummer John Theodore and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra took part in the recording. On the eve of the release of the record, the musician presented a video for the track “High Plains Drifter”.

Kirk Hammett joined Metallica as a solo guitarist in 1983, two years after forming the band. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him 11th on the list of best guitarists of all time.
